We design for system efficiency and availability without compromising user ownership, i.e. the capability to understand, configure, adapt and control how the system operates, while deciding where and when authority is delegated to autonomous functions.

Collective Autonomy as it relates to human intervention

The whole point of autonomy is to remove the need for human intervention. Yet the operational performance of a collective grows with both the number of assets and the sophistication of their capabilities, and that has a direct impact on two major aspects of human involvement: asset control and asset servicing. Collective Autonomy must therefore be designed around its users in a manner that navigates the tension between the need for reducing human intervention required per asset during operation, and giving users more meaningful authority over collective behavior.
